march 2022          continuous news

teech will be supporting ukranians in moldova

W/C 21st March

Everyone has worked exceptionally hard over the last few weeks, sorting aid, boxing aid, loading 6 lorries and the vans. The logistics and planning has been a challenge but the team are pretty much ready to leave on Thursday 24th. Departure is at 5am on the 24th, to travel to Harwich, Essex to catch the Stenaline ferry over to the Hook of Holland. The team will then start thir drive across the Netherlands, Germany, Austria, Hungary and into Romania for a hotel stop and rest. Arrival in Moldova will be on Sunday 27th.

Over the next few weeks we hope to get photos onto the website, of their trip, journey and delivery into Moldova.
Whilst the team are away we are pausing the collection of donations and will communicate again in April what aid is required for a future trip.
Whilst in Moldova the team will visit at least 2 locations to deliver the aid and understand further the need, as it develops over the coming weeks, so the aid requests might change.

The map of Moldova below shows the planned distribution of aid. Locations: Calaraseuca Camp and Singerei Camps and then unloading locations of Balit, Causeni, Nisporeni ready for distribution.

Week 2 - w/c 7th March

We would like to thank all those who are supporting the trip, and the fantastic amount of cash donations being made through Golden Giving.

We now have a very long convoy, with a planned departure date of the 24th March.
Thanks to:
  • UK-Aid, Felstead, Essex who are coordinating the gathering and loading of aid to join the convoy, plus funding transport for 2 of the lorries. Plus the purchase of magnetic signs and banners for the vehicles.
  • Philip Liverton Ltd, Essex for the loan of an artic unit free of charge.
  • Robertson Marshall Haulage, Scotland for the loan of an artic and trailer – owned by Rab who has been on a few prior TEECH trips and is joining the convoy.
  • Fred Leach of Norman W & Son Ltd, Wisbech for the loan of an artic unit for free.
  • Balin Distribution Ltd, Basildon for the loan of an artic trailer for free.
  • TIP Europe for the loan of an artic trailer for free.
  • Jay Jeyaseelan & Pratap Thakkars for coordinating the donation of food with Sathya Sai Organisation - Region 2 UK and looking to join the trip in their own charity van
  • Middlegate Europe Ltd for the loan of an artic unit and trailer to transport aid being gathered and donated by Yorkshire to Ukraine organisation, with support from TEECH.
  • Vishal Bhardwaj from UCH Logistics Ltd for the continuous supply of aid.
  • MegaCentre, Rayleigh, Essex who are filling the TEECH 18 tonne lorry with aid following local donations (picture below).
  • AC Transport
  • DAF Aid - for coming to the rescue during the trip to pick up and transport the TEECH lorry in Hungary to a garage for repair.

The generosity of everyone is outstanding. If you would like to provide support, then please email where possible so we can coordinate the response within TEECH.

Thanks

Thanks goes to everyone who has generously donated aid, cash and time, including:
  • Rotary Club of Ipswich
  • Billericay Mayflower Rotary
  • Rab Marshall, who has joined the convoy to Moldova, with his own articulated lorry and trailer, chatted to The Scotsman news about the trip. The article and video can be viewed here:

  • Clacton Motorist Discount, for collecting aid, purchasing a washing machine and supporting TEECH to sort and load items onto the lorries.
  • Thank you to Comity Club of Canterbury who gathered contributions, raising a fabulous £1,000, which went to buying aid in the form of dog food, toiletries, nappies etc. The balance is being used to purchased ladies' and children's underwear which we feel will be most welcome by those now staying in Moldova after leaving the Ukraine.
  • Thank you to Katy and Cheryl who collected contributions from shoppers at Morrison's in Larkfield, near to Maidstone in Kent, and helping to load the van to deliver them to TEECH.
  • Maidstone YMCA is a local charity offering well-being, educational and sports facilities, including facilities for the disabled, to the local community. The team have collected over 250 boxes of aid for the displaced people of Ukraine, including medicines, food, baby goods and toiletries. We are delighted to partner with TEECH who have generously volunteered to transport these essential items to those who need it most.

Week 1 - news from w/c 28th Feb

TEECH are currently in discussion with local contacts in Moldova, to gain an understanding of the impact displaced Ukrainians arriving into Moldova is having, the set up which the Moldovans are working on, and what aid they require to support those travelling over the border. Once the understanding is obtained and then built up, TEECH, along with two other UK based charities will look to transport aid over to Moldova to help.

Initial thoughts on aid requirements, are clothing (mainly women and children), food and then household items, like blankets, sleeping bags, bedding and toiletries (including washing powder and nappies). Once we know more we will add more detail to this page. Please remember, that any clothing donated must be in good condition.

TEECH has set up a fundraising page, with a target of £5,000 (subsequently increased to £10k as mentioned below). The funding would be used to pay for an articulated lorry of aid to be taken over to Moldova. The charities own 18 tonne lorry will also be filled with aid, by the charity UK-Aid (Felstead), and funded by their supporters. The working assumption at the moment is to leave the UK by the end of March.
