success of the shoebox appeal and trip
A team of 8 volunteers travelled over to Romania and Moldova during December and January to deliver the 2,000 shoebox parcels (inc food) which you all kindly donated. In the 17 day trip the team visited 13 villages plus a childrens home, home for the elderly and families. Deliveries were made to schools and house to house to ensure those who were unable to reach us still received presents and food parcels.
The charity also took hospital equipment, walking aids, incontinence pads and wheelchairs to some of the villages. The charity DentAid continues to support Stan the Dentist in Nisporeni, therefore we were able to deliver items to him also, which helps to support the community. The team were in Romania for 3 days stopping in Targu Mures, Tarlungeni and Comanesti before travelling into Moldova for a busy but rewarding 8 days in many locations. Our very own Santa Claus put a smile on many faces (as you'll see from the photos). In Moldova the team were joined by the Moldovan volunteers, Iulia, Dorina and Jay from the US Peace Corp. Their help, support and translation skills were second to none and the trip would not have been the same without them joining us for the journey. The weather was unusually mild, therefore no snow held us up and all deliveries could be made. |
TEECH would like to thank all those who donated shoeboxes and other items for the trip. If you would like to see some of the photos from the trip then please click here. |
donations
We are now starting to plan for the August trip which will be in Moldova. We therefore ask for clothing donations to be sent through from now until the end of May. We have an early deadline (end of May) for donations because we require the time to sort, pack and complete customs paperwork by mid June, therefore its never too early to start sending items through. Please ensure clothing is good quality.
