august 2020 volunteer project
Once again TEECH are planning a volunteer project trip to Moldova, Eastern Europe. The aim of the project is to create two bathrooms at the school, in the village school of Baccealia in the Causeni District. Currently the children use an outhouse building (brick) as their toilet, whilst attending school, which is a basic structure with concrete floor and holes in the floor to go to the toilet through. Moldova is just a two-hour flight from the UK or 3 days drive across Europe and the sanitary situation is not something seen in the UK for decades.
A team of approx. 35 volunteers will work together to create the bathrooms over 8 days at the school, and will travel by coach and lorry to/from Moldova. The picture shows the school building, which looks nice and in good condition but the interior and obviously sanitary situation requires a lot of work. The outdoor toilets are off to the right of the picture, behind the tree therefore a walk from the building (when it can be -20 degrees in winter!).
Whilst there, the team will also set up a free clothing shop in the village hall, with the local community visiting daily to choose items to support their families. Over the course of 2020 TEECH are gathering together good quality clothing for Children and Men (mainly), we already have a lot of women’s clothing thank you. If you would like to donate clothing then please send it through in Banana boxes where possible as this is the preferred method of packing. Get in touch before sending anything to work out the best option (prior drop off points are no longer available to the charity).

no thanks list!
TEECH appreciate donations towards the summer and winter trips but at the same time, need to limit the items which are not required coming through to the team. The charity is mainly accepting clothing between now and June for the summer trip.
We can no longer take furniture, large children toys (outdoor equipment), any medication etc, so its best to get in touch if you have anything we might be interested in before passing it onto us.
We have been asked for children’s fiction books, therefore these are welcome.
Thanks

reminder - funding the transport 2020
As many of you will have read in the October newsletter, BT have ceased support to TEECH in 2020, therefore the charity is looking for sources of funding for one of the lorries for the summer trip. The team aim to take two articulated lorries, as in the past, with one nearly funded from extremely generous donations and fundraising from volunteers. To kick start the fundraising for the second lorry, a dedicated page has been created on the Wonderful platform, therefore if you would like to provide support please click on the link below:
www.wonderful.org/fundraiser/teechtransport2020-6f34f17e Thank you to all those who have made a great start to the target. |
Each vehicle will cost the charity approximately £4,000 to take to Moldova and back, which includes fuel, road tolls, and the ferries. At the moment this value excludes hire, as we seek companies to provide the lorry units.
