project plans for august 2018
This month we launch the charities summer 2018 project, which a team of volunteers will be tackling in August in Moldova.
A school has been chosen in the village of Hăsnășenii Noi which is in the northern district of Drochia, as shown in the photo above. The mayor, Roman, also looks after the neighbouring village of Lazo, therefore volunteers will also visit that village and provide aid.
Two rooms within the school in Hăsnășenii Noi will be converted into bathrooms for the boys and one for the girls. The rooms will have toilets, sinks, a water boiler to provide for hot running water, a urinal, hand driers and new lighting along with new flooring, painting and tiling. The team will have eight days at the school to complete the transformation.
We also aim to erect a dividing wall in the library. The library will then become two classrooms to replace the space being used for the bathrooms, allowing teaching to continue uninterrupted.
Outside there are currently long drop style toilets (as in picture above) in an outbuilding within the grounds of the school. The volunteers will use these during their stay to see what it is like to have no toilets (or showers) for a week.
Aid in the form of clothing will be taken to each village to allow the residents to come and choose items they require for themselves and their families.
The school teaches over 130 children from the ages of 7-15 years. A bus is used to bring children from Lazo to attend school in Hăsnășenii Noi. Below shows a photo of the children having a nap at the Lazo kindergarten.
If you would like to gather together and donate clothing, then we will require good quality, clean items for men, women and children. Normally we receive more women’s clothes than anything else, therefore please don’t forget the men!
We are also looking for hospital curtains following a request from the psychiatric hospital in Balti.

donations
If you would like to make any donations then please ensure they are sent through from now until the end of May. We have an early deadline (end of May) for donations because we require the time to sort, pack and complete customs paperwork by mid June, therefore its never too early to start sending items through. Please ensure clothing is good quality. We already have a lot of duvets therefore will not require anymore of those this year. Ideally we require vacuum pack bags to get them in to save us some space!
