september 2024 NEWS
During August, a team of 18 volunteers ventured over to Moldova from Northern Ireland, England and Sweden in a minibus, 2 lorries, a van and a motorhome.
The aim of the two weeks was to create indoor bathrooms in two schools in the villages of Bursuceni and Moara de Piatra. Neither school had indoor toilets for the teachers or children to use.
Week one would be in Bursuceni, Singerei District, with day one stripping wallpaper from the walls and painting the old classroom, following other preparation works already completed by Romeo and his mini team. The wooden floor had already been removed and concrete laid, along with floor tiles, and all the waste pipes for the toilets laid under the floor. Construction of the timber framed partition wall quickly followed, to turn one room into two. The plumbing team would get cracking with installing the toilets and urinals, whilst the electricians started to run wires and wire up the water boiler, hand driers and new lighting.
The team worked at pace to ensure everything was completed in 4 days, so the team could then move ono Moara de Piatra. Alongside the project, another team would set up two shops, one in Bursuceni and one in the neighbouring village of Slobozia-Magura for the locals to come and choose clothing, bedding, blankets etc. We found that bedding, towels and blankets were the most popular, so would encourage you all to donate these items for the future.
Outside the septic tank was installed, with help from a local digger to prepare the main hole and channels, whilst the team laid the external waster pipes and lined up the tank.
Before departing each of the schools the teachers laid on a great spread of local foods for the team to relax and enjoy.
Food parcels were delivered around both villages, to the elderly during some very hot 35+ degree days.

help us deliver...........
The Ministry of Health in Moldova, now requires all schools to supply their teachers and pupils with hand sanitiser for use on a daily basis.
Use of sanitiser in the schools will help keep pupils healthier and prevent the spread of infections. This is an efficient solution to stop the spread of bacteria and viruses. Providing schools with hand sanitiser contributes to increase the sanitary facilities of the schools.
Despite introducing this new rule to the Directors of each school, no additional budget is provided to fund the sanitiser. Whilst the team of volunteers where at the school in Bursuceni during the August 2024 project trip, we heard directly from the Director, Ala, who explained the school only had a £200 budget for hygiene supplies for the full school year, which was not enough to cover toilet paper, soap, cleaning supplies etc anyway, so being able to buy hand sanitiser was going to be very difficult.
TEECH will provide 20 pallets of sanitiser to 20 or more schools and institutions during the Christmas 2024 trip and is looking for individuals and/or companies to sponsor a pallet. The sponsorship is £200 per pallet which will be used by TEECH to fund the transport of the aid, which covers the ferry, road tolls, customs paperwork, diesel, ad blue etc for the artic.
If you would like to donate either to fund a whole pallet or part of a pallet then please click on the TEECH Christmas 2024 link below. Please then email confirmation to [email protected] so we can add a label to your pallet to show your support when the sanitiser is delivered.
