volunteer in moldova in 2013
TEECH will be carrying out a project in the summer of 2013 at a school in a small village called Zberoaia in Moldova from 10th to 24th August. The project will be a challenge and there is a lot of planning and preparation to do before
we set off on the trip but it’s achievable with strong team work. If you are interested in joining the team then read on and find out what we are going to be doing, and then contact [email protected] with any questions or for further information.
Where are we going?
Moldova, Eastern Europe, the poorest European country, a country which requires support. TEECH are travelling
to the village of Zberoaia which is on the border with Romania, about one hour’s drive from the main border at Albeita. Volunteers reach Moldova by travelling across Europe by luxury coach, crossing 7 countries before arriving in Moldova
with plenty to see along the way.

the coach
Galleon Travel are loaning a coach to TEECH for us on the 2013 trip therefore volunteers can travel in comfort across Europe. The coach has climate control, TV's and DVD's, fridge and toilet.
What will we be doing?
In seven days we will be installing toilets, sinks, urinals, showers, water heaters, hand driers, tiling walls, painting walls, creating murals, making new friends and much much more.
The school has already benefited from furniture items from TEECH but now needs some hands on work to benefit the 200 children that attend the school. Currently the children use outside long drop style toilets all year around, which is unhygienic and provides no privacy or comfort and trust us, at minus 10 degrees or below is no fun.
One classroom has been identified for the toilets, this will be partitioned into two, one for the boys and one for the girls and toilet cubicles installed in each. This plan shows the changes which we plan to make to the room.
What will volunteers be involved in?
The question really is - what would you like to get involved in?
It can be up to you whether you want to try out some painting, tiling, plumbing, cooking or electrical work, there is a task for everyone and all team members need to be flexible to get stuck into any job to ensure the project is achieved. You can also help to do some of the driving across Europe if that takes your fancy.
The charity is hoping that there will be time this year for volunteers to also carry out some work in the village to help the locals if time allows.
Who will I meet?
Along with fellow volunteers, some who may have been on a trip before and some who are experiencing one for the first time, you will also get the change to meet locals when you venture to the village shop, and hopefully get a day out at an orphanage or summer camp to visit some of the children TEECH have helped in the past.
You may also get to meet and work with some members of the American Peace Corp who are based in Moldova and have joined TEECH on previous projects to help translate.
How much does it cost?
Volunteers are asked to cover their expenses of £450 which covers 4 hotel nights for the journey to/from Moldova, food on location, the cost of the coach and insurance. Volunteers are also asked to fundraise £200 towards the project costs, which goes towards purchasing sanitary ware, electrical and plumbing items to carry out the work, therefore a total of £650.
Each year a t-shirt is designed for the project for volunteers to keep - we ask volunteers to contribute £10 towards the cost of the printing of the shirts.
Where will we stay?
Whilst on location volunteers will sleep in classrooms within the school, therefore you would be required to bring a sleeping bag and something to sleep on (more information will be supplied). When travelling to/from Moldova two hotel stops are made each way.
How else can I help?
The school has a wish list of items it requires for its kitchen therefore donations are also welcome if volunteering is not for you.
